For me it was my first time at Sunset Beach (North Shore ,Hawaii) it wasn't that huge at all...maybe 5 or 6 foot, occasional 7' but the wave was extremely powerful! nothing compared to what I was used to (Huntington)I got caught inside many times,I was gasping for air and panicking....I have some serious respect to those who surf there all the time. That was a wake up call.....the North Shore is a intense place, certainly no place for beginners or novices for that matter.

  1. I surfed this crazy place on the east coast during hurricane Noel and it was about double overhead choppy and 50 mph winds and i was surfing a breakwater that only broke when its big and i remember someone in the line up yell **** and i looked up and see this huge set so i try to paddle around the break point and end up getting my leash wrapped around a rock so i couldnt rip it off my foot because of the set wave so i ended up just trying to swim and pry it out and it came out and and i climbed onto the rocks and could hardly breathe,

  2. i surfed Jaws NEVER surf it unless you got major balls and arent afraid of getting cut up by coral or maybe even dying... my friend was the one in the news the one that got caught in the wave.....he drowned....we were surfing that day and decided to surf it we thought we were tough...lol

  3. sounds crazed bro. was surfing on a 2ft reef, with 6ft barreling close out! so stupid to go out but we had just found it so we were pumped to get out. me and my friend paddeled for the same wave pretty kookish but ended up get thrown against the reef. cut my shoulder pretty bad and pretty nasty ding on my stick. on the next wave got caught on the close out and was down for a 3 wave set, naerly drowned!!. when i got out we named the spot bodies cause that day ther was a body found 2 miles down the coast. pretty creepd out.

  5. in rhode island theres a place at low tide where supposedly the devils foot prints are in a rock.  They look exactly like footprints...how they got there i dont no..

  6. bodies west ireland(secret spot)hey dav man!haha ya def bodies its scary as hel cus da rocks stickin out  and gettin held down alot specially bein wrapped around ur best bud underwater haha good times!its a pumping wave though got a couple airs there its crazy strong, super fast and a heavy tube section u havta be payin ful attention and give it everythin cus when u fall its scary as h**l i wiped out and forgot to put my leash on i got to my board before it hit the rocks but it was only knee high water so u havto stick to the reef under water and let the wave pass but no injuries ther  its a scary reef but a perfect wave

  7. Kalihiwai on the island of Kauai. Facing the cliffs as you are paddling for a wave.

  8. Humboldt California during a huge day. I got my first only major case of "The Whities" and it was 4X overhead and about 40-something degrees in the water.

I can't remember if we surfed Moonstone or Camel Rock that day but it was huge and fierce and I was still pretty amateur at the time (I was 15). Also, the water had all of this pollution in it from the pulp mills that used to operate with impunity back then and it was kind of nasty.

Anyway, we're out there and I see this huge shape come out of the water behind my buddy and a giant stream of water behind his head. Thankfully, it was only a Humpback Whale but it scared the living c**p out of me. It was the most insane hairy experience of my 30+ years of surfing including most of the classic spots in Hawaii.

I also surfed another spot in Northern California and saw a Great White that the locals called 'Lurch,' but I'll save that one for another day because it wasn't nearly as gnarly as the day we saw the whale.

I like this question. Good stuff man.

  9. any spot in south africa alone is spooky!!!

  10. One week after an abalone diver was completely decapitated by a great white, my friend and I took a small boat to a secret spot nearby. As soon as I got out out the boat, I got on my board and paddled to get away from the deep water.
