I am making (having my boyfriend make, actually) a round table that I can cover with a cloth and use as a side table next to the couch. Most of you probably know what kind I'm talking about. Anyway... what should the diameter be? and the height? I know I can make it however I like, but I was wondering what the basic, standard size for this type of piece is? Thanks!!!

  1. I will give you two.........one is 24" round on top.......and about 16" under.........another is a set of stack corner tables and they are 16" on top and just have legs no body or shelf....the first has a total cabinet under.......both are approximately 20" tall..........all the best.............

  2. How nice of your boyfriend to do this for you!

Standard end tables are 20" high. You might want to customize that measurement based on how high the arms of your sofa are.

I would not go crazy with the size - 24" diameter may be a little large! See if your boyfriend will cut some circles out of cardboard so that you can better visualize how they'll fit in your room. 20" diameter might be a better size.

Just for reference, here's a nice little Saarinen designed end table from Knoll.
