What is the statues of limitation for shoplifting?

Doing a research project on kleptomanics. What is the statue of limitations on shoplifting for New York and other states as well?

shoplifting rarely gets a person jail time because don't want to waste time prosecuting unless it's a big time theft. kleptomania is an emotional disease, so the court would rather  get the person help than jail time.

Most states shoplifting is a theft. Misdemeanors have a statute of limitations of 2 years, felonies 5 years.

Retail worth of items stolen under $150 (some places $500) is a misdemeanor, over is a felony.
