What is the statute of limitations on medical bills past due in Arizona The item has been turned over to collection agency.?

I have been paying on a medical bill that has been in collection since 2006 (bill incurred in 2005).  Recently the collection agency said they were going to take me to court for missing one payment (verbal agreement), and said I now have to pay almost three times the original payment amout to keep from going to court.  I just found out today from their customer service rep that my account is not in legal because it is past the statute of limitations for AZ.  Could this be true?  Do I need to pay them the increased amount?
