What is the story of owen and mzee?

owen is a hippo who was orphaned by the Tsunami and was rescued from a sandbar by some people.  he was taken to a preserve and put in a pen with Mzee, a 130 yr old tortoise.  they became friends, following each other around, playing, sleeping together.

it appears they even have developed a unique "language" to communicate together
