  1. Right now because the economy is in the tank

they are  making big bucks pushing the dollar value menus McDonald's has won that war by a larger  margin than the others. that is the current strategy.

  2. Actually the trend seems to be they are putting more salads and lean items on their menus, though I doubt it is for the benefit of the consumer.  More than likely trying to avoid future lawsuits.

"I had no other choices but to eat unhealthy food" etc. etc.

  3. their strategy is to bombard you with advertising, to make you think you are hungry even if you really are not.  They want you to keep coming in and buy something.  coffee, drink, inexpensive item, its only $1 so you really don't debate over it.  That is why they call it a "value menu" or "item".  I say you should avoid them like the plague, or all fast food places including Starbucks.

  4. to make you so fat you cant leave their restaurants so you end up living there and ordering the whole menu.

  5. To get us all hopelessly addicted to their fat infested foods while they invest their profits in pharmaceutical companies that will provide the drugs we need to keep our cholesterol under control, blood pressure down and arteries clear.
