  1. I find "No More Nails" good for things like that

  2. Don't use glue - even if the glue holds it's unlikely the plaster will. Can't you just s***w up into the breakfast bar from underneath, using a bit of 2 x 2?

  3. Liquid Nails

  4. The strongest by a mile is Gripfill. It comes in a green tube and you need a mastic gun to apply it. Dont confuse this with no more nails/liqiud nails it is much better and stronger than both, these are for your DIYers. Builders merchant is your best bet to get some, the big D.I.Y stores dont seem to sell it for some reason.

  5. Any of the PVA based glue such as PVA Evostick wood adhesive will give a bond stronger than the wood in most cases.

  6. Epoxy resin is the strongest, but ver expensive. A good PVA would be as strong as you need. Get a waterproof/exterior quality type for best performance.

  7. allways pva for wood

  8. TIP: lf you use liquid nails , as some have said. put down a good bead, put the top in place, pull the top off, to let the glue breath for a minute, then put it back on , weight it down or clamp it . lf you don't let the glue breath, it won't stick near as good . Read the dirrectoins  , But the proper way tops are fastened down, is; lf the top is made of 3/4 '' material and has a border of 3/4 '' material, it give it the apperance it is 1 1/2 thick What you need to do is get a peice of 3/4 '' material , cut it to fit inside the underside of the top. s***w this 3/4'' material dpwn to the place where you want the top at then put the top in place. s***w through that 3/4 '' material up into the underside of the top, Make sure the screws are not too long and '' break out '' through the top. And don't draw the screws too tight and break out through the surface of the top. Double check the length of the screws. 1/4 '' shorter than the total thickness of the top and your material is good , Good Luck

  9. I have recently bought a new house where the skirting boards and achetrives have been bonded to the plaster,DONT DO IT. the wood will surely shrink and it will come adrift taking chunks of plaster with it, this will happen in about 12/18. months time

  10. Use construction adhesive that comes in tubes, Lay down a lot of it in lines, then apply top and CLAMP to surface OR use very heavy weights to make sure of good adhesion! Never rely on just setting the top in place, for it will not adhere well. I have a Hickory Pecan bar top that was glued to a rough wood wall, used construction adhesive and weight (lots of weight...bags of sand piled on one another (I covered the wood to protect it...applied about 1000 pound of sand bags, and now, 4 years later, that bar top is on like iron!  It hangs over a good 8", has never budged!    good luck, Goldwing

  11. Gorilla Glue, bar non. Be careful as it expands somewhat, in your case the best liquid nails is useful as a form of leveling device as well-if that matters.

  12. gripfill/no more nails/liquid nails all the same basic product and will work quite well. check your levels before applying the glue to the plaster....you can apply extra glue to the low spots...there is a product i can highly recommend though....its fairly new its called tec-7. this is the best construction adhesive out there. its more expensive but fantastic. im a finish carpenter so i do know this for a fact! tec-7 is waterproof to the point that it will stick even wet surfaces together....even sticks glass! would definately recommend this! please note pva glue is only suitable for wood/wood fixing and will not adhere to plaster!
