  1. Saw it stated once as -19

  2. The sun is 39.5 times further away from pluto than us, so the light intensity is 1/39.5^2 or about one half of 1 thousanth weaker.

Instead of one kW per square meter, you'd feel only 1/2watt per square meter. That's as much light as a typical 100W light bulb about 12 ft away, which is as bright as a typical living room with a lamp on.

So when you are on pluto, the sun is as bright as a light bulb 12 ft away but it's size is a bright point the size of a basketball one mile away.

  3. well as we all know that dogs have no conception of size,ie jack russel v rotweiller....so obviously they dont give a d**n about the sun alll they know is it makes them pant a lot and very thirsty...what a dumb question just ask goofy!

  4. Earth's nearly circular orbit around the sun is 149,597,890 km radius. This is defined as one astronomical unit or AU. Pluto orbit is highly elliptical with an aphelion of 49.3AU, a perihelion of 29.6AU, but on average it is 39.5AU. Right now, it is 30.4AU.

The apparent magnitude of the sun (as viewed from earth) is -26.7.  Sunlight at 39.5 times farther distance will appear 1560 times dimmer (inverse square rule).  The apparent magnitude is -2.512log(F), where F is the flux of the sunlight.  Log(1560, base 2.512) about 8; therefore the apparent magnitude of the sun as viewed from Pluto approximately -19.  (-26.7--8 = 18.7)

  5. I would guess about -5

-19 is the Sun's apparent magnitude from earth, that's way too bright.

-3.7 is what Venus looks like to us at night, so -5 seems about right to me.

  6. The Sun's magnitude from Earth is -26.7.  The Sun's magnitude from from Pluto is -18.7.  The Sun's magnitude from Alpha Centauri is 0.5, which is Alpha Centauri's magnitude from Earth.
