I am going to the University of Oregon and they say that the coast is two hours away. I am an avid surfer coming from San Diego, CA and was looking for some spots to hit when I get there.

  1. It will be a lot different then SD.  Won't be a bad drive for you unless there is snow, the weather changes all the time, even in summer, and there are a lot of big days when no one surfs. The point breaks are a little more consistent then the beach breaks.   I've surfed Seaside to Cannon Beach and found great waves several times.  You will need a wetsuit, probably 5 mil or 5/3, plus boots, gloves and a hood.  I wouldn't surf early in the morning or near dark on overcast days are there are great whites around.  I also suggest you find some locals to surf with until the locals know you as some breaks are very localized.  The Oregon surf web site is a good source for local info.

  2. COLD!!!

    BRING your wetsuit...

geez I almost froze to death...

I was expecting nice and warm like La Holla was and hokey peet I froze!

    yeah, bring the wetsuit.

Also here is a great website to check out conditions as they change: http://www.oregonsurf.com/html/forecast....

    Wish I was coming....

    I miss the salty sea...

  3. very fickle

  4. Great white sharks, killer whales, freezing temperatures, over 250 days of rain per year, two mile walks to get to the beach (in the rain, over rocks). I hope you got a scholarship.

  5. The weather is cold and the water is colder, a wet suit should be the most esential part of your equipment along with your surf board.
