What is the swimging crystal called that people use when contacting spirits?

It's a pendulum.  However it can be wrong because your energy and thoughts on the issue can largely influence it.  For example if you asked does Jim like me and you feel that he does the pendulum  will answer in the positive as well.  Try and clear your mind when asking questions and know that it's really just for fun.

Please don't tell me you're basing this question on an episode of Charmed. I practice many different forms of divination and specialize in pendulums. They may be the least effective way to contact spirits or spirit guides. Pendulums are great for answering questions or locating objects or places. In fact they have quite a few different uses. If you're attempting a contact with the spirit world, I would suggest meditations that are specifically geared toward that.
