  1. Pengguwin

  2. Don't hassle yourself that much most filipinos know english even the informal settlers and indigent poor.  You won't get lost in translations.

  3. there is no tagalog translation for pengiun simply because we dont have such animal here :P

  4. 1. Penggwin (from English, penguin)

    2. Ibong Dagat (literally meaning, "sea bird")

    3. Ibong De Yelo (literally meaning, "bird of ice")

    4. Pinggwino/Pingwino (from Spanish, pinguino)

Most Filipinos understnd and use the term pengui anyway, so there is need to translate that. Sometimes, in Tagalog sentences, the term "penguin" is directly used without any differences in spelling from English.

  5. pinguino

    from the spanish

  6. Penguwin. or Ibong Dagat.

There is no literal translation for this word. Filipinos would understand it anyway.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Penguin.

During the Spanish times, penquins have not been discovered yet (I suppose). Hence, foreign terms in Filipino/Tagalog after Spanish times are borrowed from the English language. Ventilador/bentilador (fan), telefono/telepono (phone), coche/kotse (car), which are  inventions during the 1800's are borrowed from Spanish. On the other hand,  cellphone, mp3 player, rocket, space shuttle are borrowed from American English.

Hence, penguin in Filipino is "penguin." It can not be spelled penggwin because English phonetics is very different from Filipino, unlike Spanish which is very similar with Filipino.

Or you may also say, "Ibon ng kontinente ng Antarctica," which is pretty much a description, meaning, "bird from the Antarctic continent"
