Question:

What is the take on Belgium on WW1 and WW2 history?

I am going on an exchange to Belgium from Canada for a year and am really interested in the World War history. I could talk all day about the subject if someone got me talking and I can talk to people about it like its nothing.

Do people over there feel the same way as me, or is it not so open over there? I just would like to know so I don't offend anyone.

Thanks!

  1. The two World Wars are still much in the public conscience here. Most people will be more then willing willing to talk about it. Especially as the generation of my parents will remember being liberated by Canadian soldiers.

Visit the "In Flanders Fields" Museum in Ieper (don't call it 'Ypers') and the many war cemeteries from WWI an WWII.

But be carefully about the subject of the minority of Belgians who collaborated with the n***s.

  2. I would suggest you visit Waterloo, south of Brussels.
