  1. Mauna Loa is the tallest mountain in the world, over 31000 feet from base to summit, though 17,000 feet of that is under water

the highest mountain is Mount everest with an elevation of over 29000 feet above sea level

  2. I THINK ITS MOUNT EVEREST

  3. The highest mountain in the world is "MOUNT EVEREST':~

Its height is 8,848 meters The highest mountain in the world and Asia is, of course, Mount Everest, which is also known as Sagarmatha and Chomolangma, as stants 8,850 metres high or 29,028 feet.

    It is in Nepal.

Next highest is Mount Aconcagua in South America which is 6,960 metres high.

North America is next with Mount McKinley, also known as Denali, which stands 6,194 metres high.

Fourth highest is in Africa where Mount Kilimanjaro rises to a height of 5,963 metres.

Europe’s highest peak is Mount Elbrus at 5,642 metres while in Australia/Oceania, the highest mountain if Mount Puncak Jaya which stands 5,030 metres high.

In Antarctica the tallest peak is Mount Vinson Massif at 4,897 metres high.

While Mount Everest, which sits on the border of Nepal and China, is recognised as the highest mountain on Earth it is not strictly speaking the tallest. For the Hawaiian volcano, Mauna Kea has the greatest relief at 10,200 metres measured from the sea bed. From sea level only 4,203 metres are visible.

  4. The mountain with the highest altitude at its peak is Mt. Everest, in the Himalayas.

The mountain with the greatest difference between its peak and the plains surrounding it is one of the volcanos in Hawaii.  The distance from the ocean floor to the top of the peak is greater than that of Everest.

  5. Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the tallest at 33,480 feet from base under water to the peak.Mt Everest is tallest above sea level at 29,035 feet.

  6. mount everest

  7. I hope this clears up any confusion the other answers may have caused. Expressions like "from top to bottom" are a bit ambiguous.

Mount Everest, Nepal is the HIGHEST mountain in the world meaning that it reaches the highest point above sea level (i.e. it is the highest point on earth) at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet).

Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA is the TALLEST mountain in the world meaning that it has the most difference between it's base (at 5,800 m [19,000 ft] below sea level) and peak (4,205 m [13,796 feet] above sea level) bringing its total height 10,000 m (33,000 ft).

Mount McKinley, Alaska, USA has the LARGEST RISE above sea level (i.e. rise you can climb) meaning the distance from its base to peak is largest at 5,300 meters (17,390 ft) although it is not a tall as Everest.

Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania has the FASTEST RISE (essentially steepness) meaning the it has the most rise over the shortest distance at 4,500 meters (14,764 ft) within 45 kilometers (28 mi) of the peak.

    Hope that helps!

  8. Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world.

  9. it's not Everest it's Mauna Kea, in Hawaii, which is closer to 31,000ft/

    9,449m high (under water)

  10. Mount Everest

  11. Mount Everest stands 29,028 feet tall. From top to bottom, it's taller than any other mountain--whose bottom is the surface of the earth.

Here's the catch: If you add what's underneath, then Mount Everest isn't the tallest mountain. The winner then is Mauna Kea, a huge, very tall volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii (called Hawaii). Mauna Kea stretches 13,796 above water and 19,680 underwater, for a total of 33,476!

  12. mt. everest in the himalayas
