In modern Tamil it is 'Peyar' But in Sangam literature it is 'Namam". Saint Thiruvaluvar says ' Namam KetakKodum Noy" . This Namam was also borrowed by the Sanskrit language just as it borrowed many words from Tamil right from the ancient times. In Hindi it is Nam and in German it is Namah just as in English it is name.
