What is the tank light that illuminates blue?

I have a tank w/ several fish that i have had for months and i am also getting rid of fish but thats all besides the point. Anyways im basically starting my tank over and i saw it in like dental offices, and some saltwater tanks, that there is a light that illuminates almost a blue light. Anyone know what its called??

  1. blue actinic lighting. This lighting is used in saltwater reef tanks for the benefical algae in the corals.   often paired with the 10000k lighting for veiwing.


  2. The blue lights are called actinic lights.  There are also a lot of lights that are half actinic and half white light which are called 50 50 but the blue ones are 420 nm actinics (nanometer actinic.)

  3. it could be a UV sterilization bulb or unit.

    i'm not really sure.

    or it's a fluorescent bulb that puts off really pure white light.

  6. Maybe a black light, they're actually blue. However they can harm fish.
