What is the technical name for the ¬ character?

It is found on the UK keyboard above the tab key, where the tilda is located on US keyboards.

It is used in predicate logic for negation where, as far as I'm aware, it is just called "not".

  1. Peter, that symbol is part of the Extended ASCII character set from the original IBM PC. I have not been able to locate a name for it and there may not be one (the answer to this is unknown). I'll keep trying some, to find a name for it. The link below should be of some help.

    EDIT: Our elusive symbol is the mathematical numeric code character for the NOT operation in Boolean Algebra. As in "NOT A" or "NOT B". Made me do some diggin' for this one. I'm sure that's it. Good luck! Scanner...
