That's a highly complex question. It depends on the type of vegetation. Arctic plants can grow at temperatures below freezing. The typical minimum is 5 degrees C for temperate plants and 10 degrees C for tropical plants. The maximum is usually 35 C for temperate plants and 45 C for tropical plants. These are only averages.

The growing season is the period between the last spring frost and the first fall frost. Frost-tolerant plants have a longer growing season.
