Water freezes at 32F which is 0C.  So, subtract 32 from 77, that's how many degrees F 77 is above freezing (0C).  Next, realize that 100 degrees C is equal to 212 F, the boiling point of water in standard conditions.  That's 180 F above 32 F.  Now if you're not totally confused, that tells us the range from freezing to boiling for water is 180 F or 100 C.  So C degrees are bigger!  Exactly 180/100 times bigger.  or 9/5.  So multiply the number you got in the first step by 5/9, the inverse of 9/5.  Simple.  What did you get?
