What is the term for a heavy meal taken during late afternoon to compensate for lunch and dinner?

  3. You mean like brunch? I have always wondered this actually, I seem to do it a lot! The obvious terms would be linner or dunch but I think linner is the more popular one.. There's also supper, but that's rubbish. Suppers not a heavy meal. So, yeah, I'd go for linner. :)

  8. A lot of people in England eat their main evening meal between 5pm and 6pm and refer to that meal as tea.

    Personally a meal like the one you are describing I call a late lunch or an early dinner.  There is no specific word for it, so you can called it pretty much whatever you like.

    Though I must say...linner does sound pretty cool :)
