  1. There was no specific term known, but a Regent (one who must oversee the throne of the young monarch until he/she is of age to rule) must be appointed for the behalf of the monarch and the monarchy itself.

  2. I didn't know there was a specific term that defines a "minority monarch." If the heir was underage at the time of his succession, he would usually be referred to as "The Boy King" or "The Young King." The powers of a monarch who has not reached the age of 18 or who is physically or mentally incapacitated must be exercised by a regent. While an appointed regent is in power, the young monarch will still be formally addressed as "His Majesty, the King."

In the UK, under the Regency Act, 1937, and Regency Act 1953, when a regency is necessary, the next qualified individual in the line of succession automatically becomes regent. The regent must be at least 21-years old (18 years for the heir apparent or heir presumptive), be a British subject and be domiciled in the United Kingdom. Special provisions were made for Queen Elizabeth II by the Regency Act, 1953, which states that the Duke of Edinburgh (the Queen's husband) may act as regent in certain circumstances.

  3. King or Queen

  4. When the new ruler is underage, a regent is appointed until the heir reaches age of majority. Then the young monarch takes over. The regent is generally an aunt or uncle ,brother or sister who is in line of succession but not the heir. These relatives may also be called upon to act as Counselors of State if the government feels that it is necessary.

  6. The link below may help throw some light on the subject of a very young King.  Here is an annointed King of England, aged 15.  We have a very good description of this young King who was crowned while his father King Henry II was still alive and thus still the King.

I don't see any special name or title for a 'young king' of England.

We have to take into consideration also that the Kings of England at the time of Henry II were Norman French who spoke French and probably never spoke England.

They also seemed to have spent a great deal of time away from England, in France or other parts of Europe.

  7. Athelings

In the Saxon culture, a very advanced idea formed a group of young people called Athelings.

These were people of the right blood to be elected King or Queen.

When a Monarc died, a council was called and the most suitable Atheling at that time was elected.

  8. In this day and age, such a child would be named king, but would have regents or guardians appointed to watch out for him.  These posts are mostly concerned with the welfare of the royal in a constitutional monarchy.  The monarch has no real power.

Historically, the role of Regent was very important.  The son of Henry VIII was still a minor when he took the throne and died as a minor.  His regent had a lot of power and even made an attempt to put Lady Jane Grey (fourth in line for the throne) on it.  It was rejected by the populace.

In even older times, it was often the queen mother who became regent.  In at least one case this was deadly for the heir.  There were five boys in the family.  The first three were each crowned and died before reaching maturity under suspicious circumstances.  The fourth fled and stayed the h**l away from his mother until he was mature and could raise an army to force her off the throne.  When she was defeated, he required her to take the same poison he suspected she'd used on his brothers.   (Source:  The Bedside Book of b******s)
