When a single population becomes too large and/or too geographically or culturally diverse for all parties/units within it to interact as a single entity, smaller populations or groups develop within that population. What is the term for this phenomenon? Is there a recognizable critical point (or term for critical point) when the split becomes unavoidable?

  1. i don't have a clue, the only term i know for 'population too big' is overpopulation. that being said, this is a phenomenon when the population exceeds the carrying capacity of the area. wikipedia might help.

  2. Simply enough, the answer is 'overpopulation'. This can occur in countries such as Bangladesh and the Phillipines, where the resource equity is strained and spatial inequality is apparent. Take Manila, Phillipines for example, the problem of overpopulation is so big and expanding, that the people are forced to live in slums, they have 'overpopulated'.
