What is the the best video setting to choose under windows movie maker when converting hi-8 dig cam footage ?

Video for Lan 1.0 Mbps , Video for Lan 2.1 Mbps....

At the moment im cosidering one of those two above.

im transfering video footage from my hi-8 digital camera onto my pc, but for once I want to know if there is a 'noticable' difference between those two.

  1. Definitely DV-AVI, no compression and massive files but easy to edit.

    Keep files to manageable chunks when downloading, about 15-20 minutes at a time, it depends on how much ram you have in your computer.

    This is the best format if you are going to copy onto DVD.


  2. What do you want to do with the footage?

    If you are going to put it onto a dvd then use the best DV-AVI that would give you no compression leaving you with the best you can get from your camera. if you are going to send it via emails or put it on a web site you need to compress the footage (you will loose quality)

    As you are unsure why not just test it capture a small amount in both modes then compare the two
