  1. Although younger people are cruising with Holland America the majority of passengers are 40 and up. The cruise line is actively trying to attract younger couples with children to their ships. nevertheless they are not heavy party ships

"No longer just your grandparents' cruise line, today's Holland America Caribbean sailings attract families and discerning couples, mostly from their late-30s on up. Holidays and summer months are peak periods when you'll find more children in the mix. Comfortable retirees are often still in the majority, particularly on longer cruises."

  2. The main age is 40 and above. My friends just went three weeks ago on Holland America and when they got back they were thankful to be around their friends ages 20-30. They told us that the majority of the people were really old, I am talking about retired people. There were only 10 passengers that were in their 20s & mid 30s.

  3. That depends on time of year, length of cruise and itinerary.  HA tends to have older passengers in general but at holidays,  on 7-day cruises to the Caribbean, the passengers would tend more to families and relatively "younger" passengers.  Holland is a very "traditional" type of cruise, meaning people dress for dinner, tend to go to bed fairly early, etc.  There are fewer activities overall than on some of the other mass-market cruise lines.  Quality, however, is very high for a mass-market cruise - service, food and cabins, and just general overall "ambience".

You could go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Cruise Styles" or "Reviews" and/or "Boards" to get info from experienced cruises.  Reading the pro reviews, especially, will give you an overall "feel" of what HA is like.

A good "compromise" is Celebrity.  They are also fairly high quality, a little more active and a little less "traditional" - still not "party-hearty" or "dance all night", though.
