  1. The different levels of society are shown through the differences between Nick and Gatsby. They are also shown through the differences between West Egg and East Egg. One is constantly looking down on the other. The one who is looked down on is often not the one that deserves to be either. The valley of ashes is a huge contradiction to the richer societies.

The theme of lust shows up a lot at the parties with the couples fighting due to the male tendency of unfaithfulness. The love affairs that both of the Buchanan's have are also examples of lust. Tom originally has an affair with Myrtle and Daisy reciprocates by having an affair with Gatsby. I'm not too sure whether or not she did this just to get back at Tom or not, but it's still there. Nick also thinks he's falling in love with Jordan Baker at one point.

The theme of money is completely apparent through the entire story. The different levels of society, the cars, the houses, the way people dressed. These were all different examples of money and their corruption to society. Myrtle carried on the affair with Tom only because he had money and Daisy married Tom as opposed to Gatsby because he was the wealthier option. Money actually creates the levels of society, seperating them.
