Hmm, since this is advertising/marketing, I'm guessing you need a perfect, universal example to serve as metaphor in some campaign you're developing. I've been in this situation a number of times. Your question is tough because the answer is different for everyone – there is no ONE thing.

For some it's fitting into a size 2, for others it's an early retirement. For me it's a good nights' sleep – I have three kids. :) It would help to know the context of your question...but given the unknowns I'd say visual icons of unrequited desire are as follows:
