  1. The highest speed an Amtrak goes is 160 mph acheived by the Acela Service in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachussetts.

The Highest speed the TGV goes is about 500 kmh or 312 mph. However on a side note the TGV set the high speed record for a manned trin back in 1990 when a locomotive a generator car and another locomotive hit 515 mph.

The Bullet train averages about 230 - 240 mph, though they may go faster, but I just figure that is the average since the TGV is the fastest train of all of the Hi-Speed Rail Systems.

  2. The Acela MAS in the ETT is 150mph, on certain stretches of track.

Standard Amfleet Equipment used in Regionals/Metroliners has a MAS of 125mph.

Heritage Equipment has a MAS of 110mph.

I'm not sure about Superliners MAS, but the trackage out where those are used aren't high-speed [cab] signaled I don't believe, so they'd clip along at 79mph max.

  3. The highest speed of an Amtrak train is 150 miles / hour on the Acela Express between New York City and Boston.

On this 200 mile trip, Acela only reaches this speed on only 2 short stretches of 8 and 6 miles in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The average speed for this trip is just over 65 miles / hour with 5 stops.

Most Amtrak trains have a top speed of only 79 miles / hour.

  4. Amtrak Acela is 150mph, not 160mph

TGV is 186mph (300kph), not the figure quoted

    Bullet is 186mph

    Eurostar is 186mph

These are figures in regular service.

Fastest ever speeds (not in service):

    Electric: TGV 322mph (not 515mph!!!)

    Diesel: UK HST 149mph

    Steam: UK A4 126mph
