  1. total 64

    32 whites

    32 blacks

  2. A chessboard is the type of checkerboard used in the game of chess, and consists of 64 squares (eight rows and eight columns) arranged in two alternating colors (light and dark). The colors are called "black" and "white" (or "light" and "dark"), although the actual colors are usually dark green and buff for boards used in competition....

In modern commentary, the columns (called files) are labeled by the letters 'a' to 'h' from left to right from the white player's point of view, and the rows (called ranks) by the numbers '1' to '8', with 1 being closest to the white player, thus providing a standard notation called algebraic chess notation.

I think this will make clear a lot of doubts...

    right?

  3. 64

  4. 64. It's an 8 by 8 board.

  5. Its 64

    32 Black Boxes and

    32 White Boxes

  6. Σ(n=1 to 8)n^2 = 204

    Squares of size 1x1 = 8²

    Squares of size 2x2 = 7²

    Squares of size 3x3 = 6²

    ...

    Squares of size 8x8 = 1²

If you want a visualization to this pattern take a square say 5x5,

look at how many files you can position it horizontally on the board (4) and how many ranks you can position it vertically on the board (4). If you multiply these two numbers it will give you the number of distinct positions for that size square (16).

  7. the ans. is 64.

  8. of course 64 squares.
