Total price is simple:

Cage you get off craigslist: $20

Hideaways/toiletpaper tubes/stuff that probably came with the cage:$5

Food: $6 every 6-7-8 months

Bedding: There are many different kinds of bedding. A good price is: $20 every 12 months (Get Soft Sorbent from Kaytee and get the large honkin bags, it's pretty cheap considering how it takes away all the smell)

The hamster itself: $15

And your total is: $66

And I was being generous on those prices. You can get cheaper hamsters, cheaper cages, and cheaper bedding, but I put the most expensive you can get.

I'd suggest 'adopting' a hamster. I would suggest that bedding though, even though it sounds expensive, it's a lot of bedding. It will last you a long time. Look for cheap cages on craigslist. I got mine for 15. Go garage saling. I got one for two dollars at one of those. :P And then add homemade toys.
