  1. The D.R. is just like most other Caribbean islands... you dress with light, loose clothing.  The main thing to remember is, most of the islands of the Caribbean are quite RELIGIOUS CONSERVATIVE... so a lot of the things Americans think very casually about, can become a real problem in the Caribbean.

The other thing about the Caribbean is... BE POLITE... I can not stress that enough.  Most people in the Caribbean give AND EXPECT a greeting when you walk in the door of their business... just a simple "Good Morning" is sufficient, but failure to not do this little nicety... can get you IGNORED or waited on very slowly.   I can spot an American here on Antigua just by the fact that so few of them can seem to master up a simple, friendly "Good Morning".. but just launch right into what they want.

  2. Traditional clothes such as long dresses with bright colors like orange, yellow and red showing Spanish influence with matching necklaces, bracelets and earrings are worn on occasions, Dominicans most of the time wear summer clothes such as t-shirts, sandals, shirts or blouses, skirts, light jacket, and sweaters.

  3. You will never see Dominicans wearing sandles.  At night you should expect to wear long pants and a shirt if you are a guy.

You will hardly ever see Dominicans in short pants in the streets.  They dress up here every night and if a Dominican is not dressed properly a club will not admit them.  Tourists they let get away looking like bums.

  4. We are so "Americanized" now days, that we dress pretty much like people do in US.
