You are most likely referring to the Piedmont Triad which consists of the metropolitan areas of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High point. The three towns are served by the Piedmont Triad International Airport.

However, to make things confusing, the Research Triangle, or simply the Triangle, is directly east and is also in North Carolina.  It consists of the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill (home to NC State, Duke University, and UNC-CH respectively) and is known for the high tech industry located there.
