What is the true definition of magic?

My older friend and I were watching a fantasy movie. I asked him if he believed in magic. He made a witty reply asking me what my exact definition of magic is. It got me thinking. Would you describe magic as miracles, or just a little girl's childish dream?

By the way, I'm not talking about those silly magic tricks. Nothings truly magical about them. Mind-challenging, maybe, but they're just illusions. I know THAT.

Heres the longwinded answer, Magic is "superimposing your will on reality." the method of doing it is up to you.

Ancient wizards threw fireballs made of tallo and sulpher "ooooh magical" bet the enemy thought so. We talk to people on the opposite side of the earth without getting out of our chair. isnt that magical? The MODERN defenition of magic is "being able to command a force that cannot be understood to do things that should not be possible" but that is MOVIE magic. Modern people don't understand that way way back when dinosaurs roamed and i was a little boy they did stuff using chemistry, psychology, and science but didn't exactly know WHY it worked that was their magic. so yes magic is real, I drive my magic chariot to work every day i pour this volatile potion in the tank and it belches to life with the turn of a key and my magic lights light the road for me on the way home. The only reason we don't believe it's magic is because we know how it works. or think we do.

Magic has been relabeled as science and slipped under our noses for our use, :)

Now movie magic like I said earlier is all about violating OUR known laws of physics. getting more energy out than we put in or taking energy from sources we don't currently understand how to get it from and doing it with nothing but our minds or a stick.

neither. magic does not create miracles. magic influences reality, it does not change it. most magic takes effect within the laws of science. i guess it can be easily questioned from that point of view. but its more used for spiritual transformation than anything else, and thats how it should be used, if at all.

I would consider magick nothing more than the manipulation of energy through the mind. Materially or immaterially. From my experience, practicing magick requires the individual to be attuned with everything, which is why many who practice magick tend to meditate in order to achieve the state or near state of oneness/wholeness.

Personally, I'm a natural in divination. Predictions, dreams, people's intentions etc.. When did I first take notice? After a guessing game of dice, colored marbles, and coin tosses with a friend. My friend got scared.

Some would say that magic is a manipulation of energies, the bending of said energy to one's will. That every object, every life, every scent, has more to it than what we can see or feel or hear. It is like describing a colour. Blue for instance. Blue is the waves and the soothing spring rain, it is the colour of the forgiving water and the hurricane, it is a piece of lapis lazuli, a blue jay and a bluebell. And yet, while all these things -are- blue, they are not what blue is in its entirety. And just as all those thing are blue, they are also wet and hard and feathered and capable of photosynthesis. Each faceted with a myriad of characteristics and descriptors.

If you ask me though, I say that magic is love. Its loving something so much that it responds back in kind. Its the ability to understand, to empathize. Magic is the sound of a child laughing for no reason, of a song that pulls tears from your heart, of a thunderstorm racing across the desert sands. It is the core, the part that makes life alive, the simple thrum of existence. It -is-.

Each person views the world in a unique way, so each will describe what they experience a little differently. Your thought of what magic is, is a part of you. It might change as you get older, or it might stay the same. Who knows?
