Why do companies need the UPC really for? Are they just hoping you will be too lazy to send in all these requirements to get the money?

  1. exactly my point!

  2. They hope to get you to buy the product because of the potential savings and then hope you'll forget to mail it in.....I believe they want the UPC code so that people won't just go into the store and write down the code and try and get the rebate

  3. Mail-In rebates are just a sales technique. I read in my textbook most people don't even bother meeting all the requirements. Of the 20% of people who do mail everything in, the company sometimes gives the go around and won't even mail back your check in a timely manner. They hope you forget or like you said, too lazy to ask for it. That means that less then 20% of the people who bought the item actually saved money. Everyone else payed near full price for the item. Just think about how much money the company makes with mail-in rebates never being claimed.

  4. To build up a list of customer mailing lists along with your product preferences.....

  5. ~~My theory is they serve two purposes. They receive a database of customers, and they advertise a great savings and hope the customer doesn't follow through with the correct info needed to get the rebate by which they deny it. It's a great marketing scheme!~~

  6. For Me The True Purpose For Mail In Rebate Is To Spend Money And Get It Back Which Is A Waste Of Valuable Time

And I'm With You On The UPS One!!!
