Question:

What is the truth about the 2012 apocalypse?

I have heard a lot of things such as the Mayan calendar, pole shifts, meteors and even planet collisions. I have also heard that nothing dramatic will actually happen. I would appreciate if some one would explain what is most likely going to happen and to prove it with evidence (facts).

  1. It's all fake!

    Sad people made it up.

  2. In all likelihood, nothing will happen.  The theories of Earth's collision with planet "X" and visitation from aliens with ancient people are fabrications by conspiracy theorists.  Modern science shows no signs of any threat in the year 2012.

  3. absolutely nothing will happen. it's a cruel and cynical hoax, nothing more.

no proof is necessary that nothing will happen. the onus of proof is on the 2012 nutcases, and they have no proof of anything.

  4. Ignorant people throughout the ages have fantasised about the apocalypse.  So far, after thousands of predictions, nothing has happened.

The Mayans were backward enough to have a closed-ended calendar.  It ends 2012 on our calendar.  The Mayan civilisation never lasted to see the end of their calendar.  They were so bad at prediction, that they couldn’t forsee the invasion of foreigners into their lands that helped destroy their civilisation hundreds of years ago.

Do you really want to be classed with the ignorant?

  5. This whole thing is the result of a stupid documentary aired repeatedly by the History Channel.  Many others have piggybacked their pet apocalypse themes onto that date.  Here are a few that have been posted to this forum -- all for 2012.

The sun will align with the center of the galaxy, wreaking havoc.

The planets will align, wreaking havoc.

Mars will throw earth out of orbit.

A huge meteoroid or asteroid will collide with earth.

Planet X will collide with earth.

Nibiru will pass close to earth, wreaking havoc.

The Annunaki people from Nibiru will invade earth.

    Radiation.  (No source specified.)

The moon will permanently block the sun, causing the earth to freeze.

    Time will stop.

Bees will go extinct, wiping out most of the earth's vegetation.

The earth will be sucked in to a black hole.

The earth will collide with the core of the galaxy.

The earth's magnetic poles will reverse.

The earth's rotational axis will flip over.

The Yellowstone volcano will erupt.  Mankind is doomed.

“Mathematicians” say we’re overdue for some catastrophe.  They guess 2012.

Solar storms kill us all because of the sudden loss of our magnetic field.

Eta Carina will hypernova and the gamma burst will wipe us out.

The sun is a binary.  Its companion will destroy us.

    Global warming will destroy civilization.

The Large Hadron Collider will annihilate us with little black holes.

After all this, a new age of peace and enlightenment will begin, so supposedly it’s not as bad as it sounds, all things considered. <snerk>

By the way, I have already seen people offering up later dates because they want to be the first to get their *next* apocalypse prediction recognized.

I guess I should add that there is no evidence that ANY of these things are going to happen.  This one has reached such levels of hype because of the History Channel's abysmal programming decisions and the Internet.

Go here to see a detailed list of hundreds of failed doom predictions of the past.  Several have been generated for this century.  I've even found a web site predicting doom for 2003.  It's still up!

  6. There is no evidence that anything unusual will happen. The stuff about the Mayan calendar is based upon ignorance and wild guesses. The Mayans are not here to explain their calendar to us. No one can really coordinate it with our Gregorian calendar, so 2012 is only a guess about when a long cycle ends on the Mayan calendar. There are many cycles on the Mayan calendar beginning with one of 260 days. Then, there are cycles when two shorter cycles coincide, e.g. the 260 day one with a 365 day one. Some charalatan invented nonsense about a long cycle, but no one really knows when it began and ends. Other stuff has been added to the dumb predictions that began with wild guesses about and distortions of the Mayan calendar. If someone makes wild claims, it is his responsibility to prove them. Scientists would waste all of their time futilely if they tried to disprove every wild idea. Planet X or Niburu colliding with Earth is about like saying H.G. Wells' Martian invaders will attack in 2012, in that they are all imaginary. No sane person wastes time trying to disprove obvious nonsense. I have bet several men $1000 apiece that doomsday will not be in 2012. Do you want to bet against me too?

  7. Sorry, your question is already unanswerable by it's premise.

There is no evidence for any apocalypse. There is lot's of evidence against any current hoax about the apocalypse in 2012.

But it is impossible to prove that something unknown is not going to happen.

The worst trouble in 2012 will be avoided, when people just start using their own brains again. Letting other people do the thinking has historically always ended in a catastrophe.

  8. I think it was supposed to end in 1996, and then 2007 or 2008.

    It keeps changing.

  9. The polar ice caps will melt and flood the world, famine will be a world wide problem, fire, tsunamis, obama will be the false prophet in American working to develope one world currency for his own selfish gain and the world will be in crisis theft and crime will over run the world and it will be every man or women to themselves to survive.

read revelations in he bible or watch the movie left behind 1and 2 they have it available at blockbuster.. the trumpet will sound! where you going when it does?

  10. i know that an asteroid could hit the earth on april 12th 2012 but it keeps shifting its position when it swings around the sun and scientist keep changing their mind if its going to hit us or not last i heard it would miss us by a whisker

get some nostradamus books you will find that interesting or look him up on the internet

  11. Nothing is going to happen. All we have on December 21st 2012 is the completion of the Long Count of the Mayan Calendar - something equivalent to our calendar changing from 1999 to 2000. Various New Age cranks can't let this date pass without attributing all sorts of ridiculous events to it, including pole shift, solar storms, mystery planets, galactic alignment and a mysteriously increased gravitational pull from the black hole at the centre of the galaxy. It's up to them to provide credible evidence for these events. So far, they have failed to do so.

  12. There's a possibility that God just might end the world on 2012. No one knows when the end is coming. There are signs in the bible and we're pretty much through with most of them.

In the bible, there are a series of signs that prophesized by the prophet John. I don't remember them all but here are some

    -Great earthquakes

    -Greater political uprisings

Go read some of what John prophesized. You shouldn't worry if you're a good person.

  13. The pole shifts, meteors and even planet collisions have nothing at all to do with the 2012 apocalypse.

The only reason people have seized on 2012 is because some idiot said (wrongly it turns out) that the Mayan Calendar ended on that date. And ever since then every crazy end of the world idea has been tagged as happening on that date. It is just copycat nonsense.
