  1. I think the engine would cost more than that car is worth. you may be able to find a used engine for under $1000 but then you have to spend the time and extra money for other parts to install it. I replaced an engine on a BMW for $2000 but the car was worth about $8000 so it was somewhat worth doing. in your case, I would buy another car and either sell it as is or part it out. it is not worth the money or your time and effort.

  2. Salvage yard.....for sure.

It wouldn't be economically wise to put a new engine into a 15 year old Escort. And there should be no problem finding a decent engine for this car in a salvage yard - I would recommend replacing the water pump and timing belt, before you install it, and the oil and filter shortly there after.

Typical cost would depend on the engine cost (check a few of your local salvage yards) and the labor to change it (again, call around for the best price) or see if the salvage yard does this type of exchage work for one price incl. the engine.

  3. $2000.00- ???????? more then the car does.

  4. normally when a car needs a new engine -it will need a new transmission and a lot of other things

I suggest you find a good used car without all the headaches

you will be happier and have more money for GAS!!
