  1. There's a bit of everything. A nice place to eat is around the Canal.

  2. We have everything from great steakhouses to burger joints, great ethnic restaurants, to cafeterias catering to the geriatric set.  There's even a great vegetarian place.  About every ethnic group is represented in Indy's restaurants.  Sure, we're midwest, so meat and potatoes is on most menus, but there's a wide variety.

No, we are NOT all depressed and suicidal in Indianapolis.  The weather is not always gloomy, in fact, it's downright beautiful, with definite changes of season.

  3. There are certainly a lot of chains here.  But if you don't like that, you can definitely find other stuff.  I relocated to Indy 8 years ago, and in 2006 I moved to an exurb but still commute in for work.  I am of Western European descent but I eat mostly Asian and Middle Eastern food when I eat out in Indianapolis.

Here is a site with good ethnic restaurants:

I don't think there is any particular food that Indy is known for, except maybe the pork tenderloin.  I've never had one - they don't look appealing to me.

I don't know what "LA Boston gal" is talking about, as far as the weather.  In the summer it's beautiful here.  In the winter, sure, it's overcast, but that's the case everywhere that has a true winter.  Fresh produce is readily available in Indianapolis year-round, although a few things (asparagus, for instance) are a little more expensive during certain seasons.

  4. Sorry about your relocation...my sister moved to Indy 20years ago from California.  UGH!  Yes meat and potatoes town.   They've got all the same chain fast food, chain restaurants as the rest of the U.S. but they're all about fast food and junk.   Indy has a high suicide rate as well - we were checking statistics for your state... lots of depressed people there.  Gloomy weather so it's not easy to get fresh produce and the lack of good sunshine doesn't help either.

  5. Don't click on the link above - BS advertising!!

Indy is a meat and potato city.  Steakhouses galore.
