I am a bit of a novice in cricket. I know they have always been one of the more successful teams. But have they been known for a skillful, an attractive, an individual led or a dull style of cricket? I'm particularly interested in the post war period, the 1980's, and today.

  1. There is a lot of politics in the West Indies cricket and players are not selected based on their merits but on connections and their willingness to share their wages to people in high powers. Their grounds are not of international standards and the players are not well trained and disciplined. West Indies team can't produce players like Lara, Rohan Kanhai, Sobers, Richards, Wesley Hall, Lester King, or Lind wall etc. West Indies loves power play.

  2. traditionally they have played aggressively

  3. earlier it was emphatic (in 1980's), now it is pathetic !

    god bless!

  4. the decline in the west Indies was do to a lack of youngster coming into the sport .as they found basket ball and soccer led to greater riches and more opportunity's  and more popular amongst the youths as a sport

    .

  5. they were v aggressive in 1980.. now they are lack in talent n not v aggressive

  6. There style has changed over the years but adventuresome hitting and fast bowling have normally been a part of it from Learie Constantine in the thirties giving the poms a taste of being on the receiving end of bodyline to the likes of Hall and Griffith in the 60's and on to the Roberts, Marshalls, Crofts etc of the modern era. Their batting has been flamboyant but they do need to have this in tandem with their bowling. Like a phoenix, they will rise again.

  7. The West Indies are currently not too successful, and have not had a truly great side since the 1980s, when they dominated cricket in the way Australia do currently.

In the years after the war, the side was reasonably competitive but struggled when playing abroad, their first really big success coming when they beat England at Lords in 1950.

From the mid 1960s to the early 1990s, the Windies produced a succession of high quality and fearsome fast bowlers, and by 1980 their attack was a relentless five man high-pace bombardment, with no spin at all. Alligned with some very, very attacking batsmen, in particular Gordon Greenidge and the phenomenal Viv Richards, the team swept all opposition away with some ease.

But as the stars of that 80s team got older and retired, the Windies found it hard to replace them with players of the same quality. Although they still have quality batsmen like Chanderpaul and Gayle,  the present day team is a shadow of its former glory and is not capable of playing with the same attacking flair as the previous generation.
