I think you've really touched on some important issues here.  If the universe is expanding, then indeed there is a time when it must give birth.  In fact, all myths must become real at this time, as the parallel universes contain all possible and impossible truths.  The cycles of the system imbue meaning in the meaningless, and the deep water outside streams endlessly into my paper cup.  Therefore, the distance of the universe is just as likely to be coockoo ka choo as it is to be anything else!  Q.E.D
