What is the urban area in Spain?

Question

When I searched the population in Barcelona, Spain, I got the 'City Population' and the 'Urban Population'. I don't want my portfolio on Barcelona to have unexplained information. Can someone tell what the Urban Area is?

The larger number would be the metropolitan population, I think.  As opposed to the population of people living inside the proper city limits.  

I´m pretty sure.

In this paragraph, the 1.7 million is the city of Barcelona,

the 3.2 million is the Metropolitan area, and the 5.3 million is the REGION of Barcelona, or something comperable to the county in the US.
