  1. What you are describing is a solvent system that would be used to elute through a chromatography column. What this means is that your mobile phase (solvent system) consists of a 1-to-1 (volume-to-volume) mixture of dichloromethane (DCM; CH2Cl2), and hexane (C6H14). Your solid phase (silica gel, resin, etc) is eluted with this solvent system until fully solvated, your compound to be purified is then loaded onto the solvated solid phase, and the column is eluted with the same solvent system until your desired compound has come off the column.
