  1. i use the microwave to heat the bread , & boil the soup faster the the stove , though the other day i discovered some people using it to dry socks ..... believe it or not..... yes people they dry socks in the microwave these days

  3. First you have to define point-to-point.  Are you talking about VHF or UHF?

    Lets assume you're talking about VHF and use 150 MHz as an example of point to point and 20 GHz as microwave.  Have you considered what the maximum data rate is at 150 MHz?  Maybe 10% or 15 MHz.  At 20 GHz, that 10% would give you 2 GHz of data!  (Assuming you could implement the circuitry)

    Increased data rate is the primary answer.

  4. It can be point to point if it doesn't use an antenna, although it usually does end up at an antenna.  It is used to carry telephone conversations, digital packets, television channels, etc.
