  2. The study of crime is a sociological issue - and sociology is based on empirical research and results - so without the statistical data, you would not be able to generate any theories whatsoever.

    On the other hand, if this is a question of choosing between quantitative (large scale numerical) data and qualitative (in-depth interviews) data - the advantage of statistical data is that it would give you a greater overall picture of general trends and practices that would allow for a wider theory :-)

  3. The word statistics is also the plural of statistic (singular), which refers to the result of applying a statistical algorithm to a set of data, as in economic statistics, crime statistics, etc.

    its very important to include statistical data because it is brief, it's understandable, it's more logical and  it's first hand information
