What is the value or purpose of "reinforced plastic bonded finish?"?

  1. I'd have to look at the furniture, but it probably means that melamine or Formica is used on the surface. Bonded means glued to the table. Reinforced means there are filaments in the plastic to make it stronger.

    The cheapest furniture has a simple vinyl wood grain plastic sheet bonded to particle board. Next up is Formica glued on to particle board. This gives nice appearance, at modest cost. . Next is veneer, a thin layer of nice wood typically bonded to plywood. This is fairly pricey. Most expensive is solid wood.

    The purpose of all of these is to make the furniture look like it is of nice and solid wood. As the price goes up, it gets closer to meeting this goal, of course.
