What is the vegeterian population in the world?

Well that is a good question......but unrealistic to find out acuratly because people will lie about how vegetarian they really are......it sorta goes with my question of wondering how many buddhist are in the world ................

I've heard second hand that the population in the USA is something like 1.5% vegan and 3% vegetarian ... but don't quote that as fact.

I actually looked for this myself and I couldn't find out either.

In order to figure that out, you'd have to send out a survery to everyone in the world. It's not possible. Unless there is a large vegetarian organization that has annual get togethers, you can't really be 100% accurate at even a guess.
