  1. The adapter for playing back camcirder tapes in a VCR is for VHS-C tapes, not 8mm.  Sorry.  It looks like the only way to play back your 8mm tape is with a compatible camcorder.

If you have a camcorder and the hookup cables, you can plug the camcorder into a vcr, playback the 8mm tape in the camcorder, and record the input on the vcr to VHS tape, thus transfering the footage to standard VHS.

  2. if the tape cassette say Hi8 .. then the only way you can watch the footage is with a Hi8 camcorder.

You can try and find a Hi8 player on ebay but there like several hundred bucks. you can pick up a used open box camcorder at like best buy or circuit city for like 100 bucks or less.

take the footage from there and put it on DVD.

or go online and find a place that converts video to DVD.

price things out and see whats better for your budget

Mini VHS is called VHS-C. Which about half the size of a normal VHS tape. NOT what you need.

READ HER POST BEFORE YOU REPLY... SHE JUST SAID ITS HI8.. NOT VHS

  3. I don't think it has a special name I think it is only called an adapter. You can get them anywhere you can buy the mini VHS cassettes.

  4. I have good news, bad news, but then more good news.

The good news?  The thing is called a VHS-C adapter, and is still available at many stores.

The bad news?  It ONLY works with VHS-C tapes.  There is no such adapter for 8mm tapes, nor has there ever been or ever will be.  Don't let anyone tell you that there is such an adapter for 8mm tapes; they are mistaken if they do.

But, I've never been one to end anything with bad news.  There's more good news; it should be fairly easy to get your tape converted to a more common format like DVD (or even VHS).  Many video stores can do this, and it's not terribly expensive.  Of course, if you have a 8mm or Hi8 camcorder, you can play back the tape and plug it into a DVD recorder.  Many Digital-8 camcorders can do this as well.

Any other questions?  Feel free to ask away, you can use the e-mail link in my profile or simply add a detail onto this question.

  5. look for a vhs-c to vhs adapter ... I think you can buy them at Wal MArt, they look like a VHS tape, but you can put the vhs-c tape in it and play it in your VCR
