Question:

What is the volume of manure a cow produces daily?

An approximate value would be good. I'm after volume (not weight), but if this is not available, weight would be good (I'll assume that the density is 1 and give that as the volume).

Thanks!

  1. it also depends on what the cow eats. For instance if the cow is in a feed lot being fed all kinds of stuff it will produce more waste than a cow being fed grains and hay because the cow is using more nutrients. I would go with the above calculations though.....that would display your more typical cattle ranch

  2. How much does the cow eat?

    Beware bullshit answers!

  3. OK, I'll give this a try. An average size mature cow will weigh around 1000 to 1400 lbs. They will produce around 100 to 120 lbs of manure per day (80% water), That would be about 13.3 to 16 gal per cow per day or 1.73 to 2.1 cu ft of manure per cow per day.

  4. I'm just really glad cows can't fly!

  5. Based upon the cow fields near where I live, I'd say about two bucket loads per day.  That's about five gallons.  Most of this is just left in the field to slowly rot down and sink in.

Other dung is dropped in the cow sheds where it is washed out and used as a slurry and spread over fields to aid fertility of the soil etc.

Best dung for your garden is well rotted horse manure.

    Pooh!

  6. A cow yielding over 9,000litres of milk per lactation will produce about 64litres of waste per day (poo and wee),

but a cow giving 6,000-9,000litres will only produce about 53litres of waste per day.
