Give me the details because I understand it comes into play when you are adding players, but I just don't get the concept of it.

  1. the waiver line is it if somebody drops somebody you have to wait a certain amount of days to pick them up

  2. When a player becomes available either (a) because he didn't get drafted in the draft or (b) because a fantasy team drops him, he goes onto the waivers list.  There will be a period of a few days when everyone who wants him has a chance to put a "waiver claim" on him.  At the end of the period, whoever has the highest "waiver priority" will get him.

Why?  Because otherwise, if you dropped a player at midnight, whoever logged on first would get that player.  That's not very fair.

So the next question is how the waiver priority is determined.  The most popular way is that it starts out as the reverse of the draft order.  Then when you make a waiver claim and you actually get the player, your waiver priority drops to the bottom of the list.  This ensures that it's not one person grabbing up all the waiver players.

  3. A couple of things...

The Waiver wire is simply a pool of undrafted players, available for you to pick up.

In many leagues, you must put in a waiver claim to pick up any player on the wire.

The manager with the highest waiver priority (1 is the top position) will be granted the acquisition.

Some leagues have open free agency, and only recently dropped players will be placed on waivers.

It's important to use waiver claims judiciously.  Sometimes a player will be reinstated, or otherwise appear on waivers later in the season.  Highest priority gets him...

You will move up the ladder, as other managers ahead of you burn claims.
