  1. The best kind of clothing for snowboarding is something that will keep the wind and the water out and can be adjusted to keep you comfortable - it isn't always that cold when riding so you should consider clothes that can be layered.

    1. Base layer - (not cotton - if it gets wet it stays wet and you will be miserable). Look for a good synthetic long underwear, mid weight or expedition weight if you are really cold. Hot Chilis, Patagonia, Doufold, etc.

    2. Insulation layer - fleece or windproof fleece makes a good mid layer and is not that expensive. Any brand, but North Face, Mountain Hardware are the best

    3. Outer layer - don't get insulated jackets and pants that will be too hot on warmer days, get a shell that is water proof and wind proof (like GoreTex or other membrane) or if money is a big issue a treated shell jacket and pants. Burton, North Face, Spyder, etc - there many good brands.

    Good Luck

  2. Get to know the 3 layer rule. Polypropylene thermal underwear (long jons) is the best  a good fleece sweater (not cotton) and a light but warm jacket. get a jacket with a full hood on it. Helly Hansen makes some of the best.  but make sure your comfortable and movable.  on those extra cold days its always good to carry an extra layer/ light sweater in your bag.  as far as finding cheap gear look for local ski swaps  usually put on at the begining of the season.  they might have a fee to go but your garenteed some good gear for peanuts.

  3. We wear Underarmor and nimbus gear.

  4. i recommend marmot (sp?) jackets. they aren't for snowboard, but they're for mountaineering, so they're better. they come with a zip-out fleece (think north face) liner that keeps me real warm, while most snowboarding jackets only have a shell.
