I'm gonna be in Melbourne Australia for 5 weeks starting day after tomorrow. From my understanding they are headed into fall.

In general, what is the weather like this time of year over there? Rainy? Hot? Cold? Just how hot / cold does it get?

Hoping to not waste time packing too many sweaters if I can.

Thanks!

  1. Melbourne weather can fluctaute dramtically - last week in melbourne temperatures were up to 40C! - While it is possible we may have another 'heat wave' I think it is unlikley as we have now begun autumn (fall).

Temperatures over the next month or so will gradually fall but at the moment it is fair enough to expect lows of 10-15C with max temps during the day of between 20-25C.

The above temperatures probably reflect the general trend however the next month or so can be quite unstable - it is possible that during your time you will have weather that is both much warmer (30+) - and increasingly colder nights with lows down below 10C

In brief - melbourne at this time of year changes quickly - you need to pack for all occasions!

  2. Looks like its still pretty mild down under, mid 60's to high 70's. Weather.com is your friend.

  3. Melbourne experience all four seasons in one day. Majority of your trip should be comfortable in jeans and a tshirt. I would bring one jumper and rain jacket just in case. Boardies wouldnt go to waste either.

Autumn is usually around the late teens to mid twenties in degree's celcius. But you could well hit a heat wave or a cold shift with the weather in Australia of late being very unpredictable.

If you get stuck you can always buy something, Melbourne is great for shopping.

  4. I just got back from there it is still pretty hot. In the 90's farenheit, I think that is 4o's celsius. It may begon to cool down as you are correct they are heading into fall.

I believe it will be hot to mild with occasional rain. If you will have opportunity to travel around a bit while you are there, I highly recommend Cairns.

    Have fun.

  5. Don't pack sweaters just pack one comfortable jacket.  You might not even need it.  It's mid-20s right now but weather is unpredictable.
