I'll be in Iguazu Falls, Rio de Janeiro, Buenas Aires, and Santiago de Chile during the last 10 days of Sept and early October. Since the weather is flipped based on the hemisphere and I live in Southern California, I assume the weather will be like what we have in March/April in Southern CA. Right? Any info would be helpful for my pre-trip shopping/packing! thanks.

  1. Nice and cool, with some warm days!

    But, WET, very humid!

Iguazzu from the Chaco Forest and the falls

Rio from the Ocean, as Santiago (Pacific)

Buenos Aires from one of the widest deltas in the world.

In any case, weather has (as every-where) changed significantly, therefore take it with a grain of salt.

  2. Like late spring/ early summer in the northern hemisphere.

  3. Ranging from hot and humid in Brazil -> Warm and humid in Chile -> Cold and dry in Argentina, even though it will be spring, but it really depends on the exact location within the country.

  4. Iguazu Falls:

    average minimum: 14.5

    average maximum:26.5

    Rio de Janeiro:

    average minimum: 19.5

    average maximum: 25

    Buenos Aires

    average minimum: 12.5

    average maximum: 20

    Santiago

    average minimum: 7

    average maximum: 20

All the temperatures are in Celsius, if you're from a country that does not use the UNIVERSAL metric system, here's a converter:

  5. Pleasantly Warm to Hot as He11!

Remember to take sunscreen with you.  The sun rays at that lattitude are more intense.  You burn quicker.

If you go Iguazu, they're better from the Brazilian side.

Santiago is awesome!  Might be a little smoggy.  Go up to San Cristobal.  Good view of the city from there.

Remember that for Brazil (If you're a US Citizen) you need a visa.   If you're old enough..Don't drink too many caipirinhas..you can black out within 2 drinks.   The REAL Cachasa is crazy strong!

Buenos Aires..  Go to Puerto Madero and eat at the "Cabana de Las Lilas".. hands down the best beef you'll ever have.

Oh..and in all these places.. watch out for pickpockets..don't be a flashy tourist with jewels and electronic equipment.  Don't use credit cards or debit cards unless you want to lose everything.   CASH CASH CASH

    Have Fun!

  6. hot hot hot

  7. Sept and early Oct is the beginning of spring. Beware of Argentina and Chile this year it might still be cold. Argentina had one of the worse winters ever, it snowed in Buenos Aires for the first time in 70 years and many people died because of the harsh winter.

Brasil will have pleasant weather. I highly recomend if you go to Iguazu stay on the Brasilian side, which is more taken care of than the Argentinian side.
