  1. I lived there for about two years as a child but haven't been back in the nearly 40 years since I left. What I remember is that summers are long and hot as well as quite humid. The typical summer day would start out clear and relatively cool but as the day progressed, the humidity would increase and clouds would build up until there was a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Then it would start to clear up again. The winters are short and relatively mild. It snows a few times but that snow is usually gone by the next day. The one thing that stands out are ice storms that sometimes occur in the winter. I've never seen them anywhere else I've lived and I've lived in quite a few places.

  2. Currently, it's 73 degrees and cloudy.  From that map, you can check the 10-day outlook, which shows a chance of storms throughout the weekend, which may be severe.

In general, during the month of May, the weather is a little more raucous than usual due to the transition from winter to summer weather patterns.  When cold and hot air collide, you get fairly violent storms.

Fayetteville is in fairly flat country in North Carolina, and being so, is at a slightly higher risk for tornadoes than in the mountains to the west.  However, it's certainly not nearly as common as what you'd see in the plains states, in Tornado Alley.  In short, while tornadoes aren't unheard of, they're certainly not common.  I hope that helps, and you have a nice day, too.
